Auspicious 8 — Frequency Trainer

Learn frequency using the A8 second. The physical sound does not change; the time ruler used to count its cycles does.

What this trainer is teaching

Primary: frequency is displayed as cycles per A8 second. Conventional Hertz remains a secondary browser/reference translation because Web Audio still requires cycles per conventional second.

Browser implementation: conventional Hz = A8 cycles/A8s × 1024/675. Reverse reference: A8 cycles/A8s = conventional Hz × 675/1024.

Why the A8 ladder is naturally octave-friendly

A musical octave is a physical 2:1 frequency ratio. A8 does not create that acoustic relationship; it represents it cleanly because binary doubling and halving are already native operations.

One octave up

The 2:1 octave ratio is the physical/acoustic fact. The unusually clean sequence 256 → 512 → 1024 is the A8 representation of that fact. This is “octave-friendly by structure,” not a claim that Nature itself uses a human numeral system.

OCTAVE DISTANCE FROM 512 A8

Start low and use modest volume. Sine is recommended. High frequencies can be unpleasant or inaudible, and browser hardware cannot reproduce every theoretical A8 value.

Binary A8 frequency ladder

Every adjacent button is an exact ×2 or ÷2 in cycles per A8 second. The small Hz number is deliberately secondary and generally does not look clean.

Direct A8 frequency

Halving and doubling operate on the native A8 frequency value. The physical browser oscillator is translated afterward.

Reference translation — not the native ruler

This panel exists so a newcomer can verify what the browser is physically producing without confusing that implementation value with the A8 measurement.
